The Universal Accessory Panel (UAP) is a unique control system that operates
on any industrial door with an Open-Close-Stop pushbutton station, and with the
proper options can control ANY door system safely. Because this is an
"Overlay" system and we only wire into the door operator 3 button
control station
- When the unit is turned off, the buttons are exactly the same as an OEM
original equipment push button station wired to the door.
- Unit is designed for industrial "Machine Tool Electricians".
- When on the UAP takes control of the door system and safely automates the
door to literally ANY sequence of operations you desire.
- Drawings and Internal wiring per Industrial Code SAE HS-1738
- Easy to understand for "Automation Electricians".
AS OF MARCH 2004, UL325 DOES NOT PROVIDE SAFETY FOR COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL
DOORS. THE CODE SAYS IT DOES, BUT IN REALITY IT DOES NOT. IF A COMMERCIAL DOOR
IS INSTALLED PER UL325 WE DO NOT CONSIDER IT SAFE. THE UNIVERSAL ACCESSORY PANEL
EXCEEDS UL325 AND SAFELY ADAPTS THE DOOR SYSTEM TO COMMERCIAL AND INDUSTRIAL
USE. TO ACCOMPLISH SAFETY, SENSORS MUST BE POSITIONED AT EACH OPENING TO SAFELY
DETECT VEHICLES AND PERSONNEL GOING THROUGH THE OPENING. WE SUGGEST USING OUR
CONSULTING SERVICES TO SAFELY ADAPT THE SYSTEM TO THE APPLICATION.

It should be understood up front that all UAP panels can be connected on a
NETWORK. A simple description is to compare this to a computer network, where
all the control panels are connected with an Ethernet type cable, and all
devices communicate with each other.
- Multiple door settings can be controlled from one location.
- In a bus garage, one main panel can be used for timer settings, etc.
- Time settings can be set for one way or two way traffic control.
- Time settings can be set for how long doors stay open before
automatically closing.
- Times can be set for changing between Steel and Fabric door operation.
- A remote location touch screen can be provided to operate all doors.
- In a fire station, a touch screen can be connected in the dispatch
office.
- The screen can be set up with a main screen.
- One touch can open all doors.
- Another screen can indicate which doors are open and which are
closed.
SCADA Option
The UAP system can be interfaced with existing SCADA systems to provide data
back to your main system.

Diagnostic Options
The UAP has diagnostic options available to tell assist you in servicing the
door.
- A Two line digital display mounted inside the enclosure.
- The Standard Option required opening the control panel up to see the
display.
- A small vision panel is available to see inside the enclosure.
- Four Line Panel Face digital display
- Four lines of text tell you exactly what is wrong with a system.
- Auto Close Timer settings can be changed via this display.
- 6" touch screen
- Monochrome or Color Display
- Sizes: 5.7inch , 8" and 15" Standards
Touch Screen Panels
The touch screen panels can be installed as stand alone units to indicate
door condition. We could install a small remote panel anywhere on the network
and through programming show the exact condition of the doors.
- The potential of this unit is tremendous. Imagine a fire station or bus
garage diagramed out on the screen, and you just "Touch" a door
opening to open or close a door!
- Completely programmable and can be used as a stand alone unit.
Stand alone door.
- Open Close Stop pushbuttons on panel face.
- When in Automatic Mode:
- The pushbuttons operate through the microprocessor and control the
door through the outputs of the PLC.
- When in Hand Mode
- The pushbuttons are wired directly to the door operator. This is
exactly the same as the original three button control station provided
with the door.
- One of the main features of the door portion, is that this unit
wires in exactly the same way as the standard door control. A door
service technician can service the door and the UAP panel has NO
effect on the door. This is very important. We have absolutely NO
effect on the door. You can unplug our unit, destroy the processor, to
anything you want, and the pushbuttons will operate the door.
- Provides an automatic door system.
- Timer included to automatically close a door.
- Terminals provided for:
- Interior Automatic Open Device
- Used for traffic flow when 1 way traffic is required..
- When exiting the building this input will open the door.
- When entering the building, this input will act as a safety.
- Exterior Automatic Open Device
- Used for traffic flow when 1 way traffic is required..
- When exiting the building this input will open the door.
- When entering the building, this input will act as a safety.
- Entrapment Photo-eyes that mount 5" above the ground to meet UL
325 requirements.
- Interior Photo Eye
- When used in a vestibule, it tells us the direction of traffic flow.
- When used in a vestibule, it detects the difference between a person
walking through the opening and a vehicle passing through.
- Exterior Photo Eye
- When used in a vestibule, it tells us the direction of traffic flow.
- When used in a vestibule, it detects the difference between a person
walking through the opening and a vehicle passing through.
- Fail Safe Reversing Edge Controller
- Terminals can be used for 2, 3 or 4 wire operaiton.
- If a NON fail safe edge is used, jumpers can be used to get the
system to operate.
- Vestibule Interlock
- Terminals used for interlocking with another door.
- NOTE
: The base unit can be modified to control two existing
doors in a vestibule. Read about that option below.
The standard system can be modified via plug in cards to automatically
operate a Steel / Fabric door system in one control panel.
- The push buttons located on the face of the control panel wire directly
into the Steel door and Fabric door control panels, and when the system is
in the Hand mode, the doors operate via their own separate control system.
- When the control panel is in the Auto mode, both doors operate through the
UAP microprocessor.
Features of the Steel / Fabric Door unit.
- Two Doors in one opening
- The system controls both doors, so one door is in the full open position
while the other door is in operation.
- Pushbuttons for each door are located on the face of the control panel.
- For the steel door there is a three button control on the face of the
panel
- For the fabric door, we can have buttons arranged in different
manners. The standard fabric door normally has only 1 button. For most
of our applications the customer would prefer 3 button operation. It is
important to note that we can provide either.:
- One button, the same as the fabric door manufacturers standard.
- A three button station, having the Open button marked as
Open/Close/Stop to function the same as the manufacturers standard.
- Or we can use a separate button and label it as Manual operation,
and that button would act as the Fabric door button when in the Hand
mode.
- Devices operate both doors.
- Automatic opening devices, reversing devices etc. operate with both
doors.
- The UAP coordinates all safety devices for both doors.
- NOTE: We do not use the manufacturers standard photo eyes. We use
OUR thru beam photo-eyes and accessories with out panels.
- An optional 24 hour / 7 day timer can be added in
- To change the time when the door changes from the Steel door mode to
the Fabric door mode.
- Example: Bus Garage. 8 PM to 4 AM. Steel door operates for security.
4 AM to 8 PM. Fabric door operates because busses are continually
running through the opening.
- Both doors will operate automatically from the loop detectors and
other automatic devices.
The UAP panels can be applied to a vestibule in two ways.
- Two separate UAP’s can talk to each other.
- Four wires can run between two units to interlock them.
- A network can allow the two to communicate.
- One master unit can control both doors.
Because of safety, we need to furnish ALL the sensors when the doors are
being used in a vestibule. We should make the program so that the doors will not
function properly when something is bypassed. An example would be that automatic
operation would not work if we did not detect all the photo-eyes making and
breaking as the system is operating. If they are not making and breaking, this
means there must be a jumper wire installed somewhere. This is only an example,
and we should work on this for safety.
- Standard Unit
- If used in a vestibule the interlock is on when the control panel is in
the Auto mode. When in the hand mode each door operates separately and the
bypass interlock is passed.
- Vestibule Unit
- Buttons for each door is on the face of the control panel.
- We suggest using the DPM with this unit to indicate the position of each
door.
- The exact sequence has not been worked out, but an option in the
sequence would be that if you wanted to bypass the vestibule you just have
to hold in BOTH open buttons and the doors would both open. This would
replace having a special bypass button on the face of the panel. Then when
you press one of the Close buttons the vestibule goes back into the
automatic mode.
This system can be used at rail doors to do a number of functions.
- Interlock the door with a derail system.
- Control the "Blue Light" mounted above the rail door.
- Railroad building entry lights are "Amber" for stop and
"Blue" safe.
- See "Blue Light Area" in the nomenclature section.
- Control flashing bells and beacons in a rail pit when the rail door is
open.
- Equipment inside the building can be interlocked with the door.
- Bridges across the rail tracks.
The UAP can control and interlock any quantity of loading dock devices in the
same manner as it controls doors.
- Hand Mode – buttons wire directly to equipment
- Auto Mode – equipment controlled through the processor.
Dock equipment integration is unlimited because of microprocessor
interfacing. The processor remains the same and interface relays need to be
installed to control the units. The design of the UAP is carried right over to
the Integrated Universal Dock Panels. Pushbutton variations are unlimited.
I would like to try some of the touch screens out with these units. To dial a
dream, I would like to furnish this unit with a 6" or 8" touch screen
as standard, and just program the unit from there. Since there are almost
unlimited screens with the touch screens, we can develop and control any
sequence through it. The problem is that we have not purchased and tried one of
the new touch screens to know what is available.

The UAP already has everything built in to indicate if there is a vehicle in
the bay.
Name the options:
- Standard unit:
- Mount a sensor outside to read a truck.
- Mount a two or three light unit inside the bay.
- Mount a two or three light unit inside the plant.
- When the truck is in the bay, an inside light comes on.
- If you want, have an outside light come on to mimic the inside light.
- Mount a pushbutton on the face of the UAP.
- When the unloading cycle is complete, the operator presses the button
and the "load complete" light comes on inside and out.
- This signal can be sent to ANY remote area that the unloading is
complete.
- When the truck leaves, the system resets.
- Options
- Remote station – indicates if a bay is occupied and if the unloading
is complete.
- Patlite Annunciator at the remote location.
- When the unloading process is complete, the annunciator says "Bay
# loading complete" or something like that.
Most of these options require our DPM (Door Position Monitor).
- Door Open for Heater output.
- Heating System Door Position Monitor
- Sends a signal back to the BAS (Building Automation System) indicating
how far the door is open so a square footage of air infiltration can be
calculated and used by the heating system.
- Outside Temperature Automation (Requires a bulb thermostat and main UAP
and network)
- Standard Door
- When the temperature is above a certain set point the door will
automatically close. If the weather is nice, the doors stay open. If it
is cold, they automatically close.
- In a vestibule condition, at certain set points only one door needs to
be used. When it is cold, you want the vestibule, when the weather is
nice, you only need one door. In some conditions you may want to keep
the whole system open automatically. This could combine with the Wind
Sensor.
- Humidity sensor.
- Used in steel mills to keep outside doors closed when the humidity is
high, to prevent high humidity from ruining coils of steel.
- When the outside and inside humidity is at a certain set point, the
doors can be left open and workers can enjoy the fresh air.
- When dangerous levels of humidity are reached (adjustable set point)
the doors will automatically close.
- Wind Sensor
- Closes the doors automatically when the wind is high, and the potential
of dust blowing into the building is reached.
- In a vestibule condition, when the wind is low only one door needs to be
used. When the wind is high, you want both doors to operate and block the
wind.
- Diesel Fume Sensor
- Sensor detects high amount of fumes in area.
- Doors raise 3" to 4" (adjustable) off the floor automatically.
- When air is acceptable, all the doors close fully.
We can interface with multiple security devices. We should use the Network
capabilities to tie into security instead of them tying into each control panel.
Note: If we are going to use the system with security, we must think about
and determine what alarms we want to send back to the security system. Example:
someone turned off the power at the opening, etc.
- With our DPM (Door Position Monitor) we can send information back to the
security control as to whether a door is open or closed.
- If the door is closed, and someone tries "lifting" the door,
we would probably get some movement on the DPM indicating that something
is moving the door and set off an alarm.
- If someone opens a door, the indication would go back to security.
- Security can tie into out base panel to control all the doors.
- Security would tie into our main system, and through our system modify
and control all doors in the building.
-
Security can control the Modes of operation.
The Door Position Monitor (DPM) is a device that we manufacture and have
patents pending. It is basically a rotary device that connects to a moving
(preferably rotating) part of the door. As the door moves the device sends a
signal to the processor indicating door movement.
The unit adapts to a sectional or rolling steel door via chain connection. An
option for a roller device enables the unit to be activated by a sliding
surface.
The UAP has universal application capability. Please contact us for
your special application.
